Weekend Race Recap
Saturday 7:30PM -
An enthusiastic crowd greeted the return of the Monster Jam to Dolphin Stadium in Miami. A large number turned out for the Built Ford Tough Party in the Pits to meet the drivers who would be in competition on the arena floor. In early qualifying, Team Suzuki (Bobby Parr) set the early mark with a 26.28-second run while Iron Warrior (Glen Bowlin) broke during the run. El Toro Loco (Lupe Soza) lowered the mark to 23.66 and that mark held until the final qualifier hit the line. Grave Digger (Randy Brown) lowered the time to 22.28, earning him the number one position for round one eliminations. With the breakage of Iron Warrior, Grave Digger used a bye run for a free pass to round two. In other round one action, Turtle (Deric Evans) dropped Instigator (Lionel Easler), defending Miami race winner Gunslinger (Scott Hartsock) took care of Bearfoot (James Tigue II), Destroyer (Dan Evans) rolled past Wild Thang (Dave Brown), Team Suzuki sent Cowboy (Glen Logan Jr.) on the trail, and El Toro Loco scooted past Monster Patrol (Doug Charles). In round two, Grave Digger bypassed Turtle, Destroyer nipped Gunslinger in a close contest, and El Toro Loco handed Suzuki a loss. Gunslinger earned new life as fast loser, but that life was short. Grave Digger topped Gunslinger and El Toro Loco eliminated Destroyer. In the special two-lap final, El Toro Loco prevailed in a popular victory.

For Universal Technical Institute Freestyle, Instigator started with an impressive 19. Wild Thang and Cowboy could only muster 11 and 18, respectively. Bearfoot was next to attempt to unseat the leader, but fell short with a 16. Monster Patrol's 17 and Turtle's 18 couldn't get the job done, but Team Suzuki opened with some strong donuts and turned up the heat even more to entice a trio of 8s from the judges for a leading score of 24. Destroyer's 21 was too little too late and Gunslinger could only mustaer a disappointing 17. When Grave Digger hit the floor, Randy Brown had a mission and set about his task. Brown hit every obstacle including a powerful wheelie in a car stack that thrilled the fans and brought an appreciative 30 from the judges. The score put Grave Digger in a good position, but one truck remained. El Toro Loco took the floor and despite apparent ignition problems let it all hang out. He concluded his run by rolling the truck completely over, ripping off one of the horns atop the truck. The judges liked it and gave it a 30, setting up a cheer off. The crowd gave a slight win to Grave Digger. Steve Fabrizio won the Speed and Truck World Autocross main. Team Georgia took the preliminary Quad Wars win, but Team Florida rallied for the feature win. Stuntman Mark Hager attempted a world record sui-spiral jump that saw the car twist once in the air before coming to rest on the arena floor.
