The Town Center at Boca Raton Unveils new closed-circuit television command Post and Sub Station for Boca Raton Police Services Department at 9 a.m., Thursday, October 2nd.
This event took place in conjunction with a ribbon-cutting signifying the opening of the new Boca Raton Police station. The new 1,700-square-foot sub station, will be assigned to patrol Town Center at Boca Raton. The station will include work space for four Crime Prevention Unit members. It will be staffed by a community service officer and civilian volunteers who will help shoppers with police reports and fingerprinting services.
“Law enforcement has held an on-site presence at Town Center for 15 years,” said Joseph Cilia, general manager of Town Center. ”We are pleased to present the joint project that is the culmination of efforts and work began in 2006. In addition to it being an expansion of both the mall and city services, it will be the monitoring point for all the newly installed cameras including the parking area, decks and interior of the mall”.
The sub station will be staffed by a Community Service Officer and civilian volunteers who will assist shoppers with police reports and fingerprinting. The sub station will have a processing area and video surveillance room.
"This facility enhances our service to the public by consolidating all of our Town Center resources in one convenient and customer-friendly location," says Boca Raton Police Chief Dan Alexander. "This sub station also increases our efficiency and law enforcement presence with the addition of the Boca Raton Police Crime Prevention Unit at this site,” adds Alexander.
The event will be attended by members of the Boca Raton Police Department, City officials and members of the newly formed Community Safety Task Force for Boca Raton whose mission is dedicated to building a safer community through communication, awareness and commitment to action.

Dan Alexander was sworn in as Boca Raton's Police Chief on July 17, 2006. He has spent his entire law enforcement career in Florida.
From August 2002 to July 2006, Chief Alexander led the police department in Cape Coral. He served for approximately three years (1999 to 2002) as an assistant police chief and captain in Boca Raton, three years with the Indian Creek Village Public Safety Department and six years as a deputy sheriff in Alachua County.
In 2003, he was named the Southwest Florida Police Chief of the Year by the Southwest Florida Crime Prevention and Community Policing Association. He became a Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) Assessor in 2002 and has been a Team Leader since 2004. Chief Alexander's professional affiliations include the Police Executive Research Forum, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Florida Police Chiefs Association and the FBI National Academy Associates.
Chief Alexander earned a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration from the University of Florida in 1995, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice in 1989. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
