Cow Licks Kids Salon is a full-service hair salon that caters to kids of all ages, but it is really designed for younger kids. Cow Licks founder Peri Ginsberg realized that hair cutting is a niche that is recession proof: people's hair grows regardless of how much money they have. Having a really strong background in customer service and being a mother of two children herself, Peri Ginsberg feels that she really has the right experiences needed to cater not only to young children, but to provide parents with a level of service that few places offer nowadays.
Of course, there are salons everywhere, but there are very few salons geared directly to children. Peri Ginsberg chose not to sign up with a franchise, and instead built her company herself so that she would have the freedom to experiment with features and functions, and the ability to make changes without having to go through a huge bureaucracy.
Cow Licks Kids Salon makes children look forward to haircuts. The stylist greet parents and children when they walk in the door, making sure to treat the child as a person. The waiting area is fully stocked with toys and things to climb on, and the chairs are built to resemble race cars and fighter jets. Cow Licks is well-stocked with kids' favorite movies; children can pick out their own movie to watch while their hair is being cut.
The thing that differentiates Cow Licks from every other hair salon is their commitment to service. As Peri explains, she has extremely high requirements of her staff, and expects a lot from them. In turn, she affords her employees a level of respect that they may not be used to from previous jobs they have held. Peri Ginsberg's driving philosophy is that a customer may forgive a bad haircut, but bad service is never forgiven.
About Peri Ginsberg Owner of Cow Licks:
Peri Ginsberg is Originally from Middletown, NY, graduated Cornell University with a Masters in Civil Engineering – after a few years in the field she made a career switch to IT. From they’re held several positions with Andersen Consulting eventually finding her way down to Florida. Here I took a job with Office Depot in their IT department, ultimately reaching Director of IT and working for they’re for 7 years. Knowing that she had so much more to offer and desperately desiring a job that allows the ability to explore her creative side, she went on the hunt for an entrepreneurial opportunity. One Sunday afternoon in 2007, Peri Ginsberg and her husband took their kids (Maleri currently 7 and Aiden currently 5) to get haircuts. The place they went to specialized in children but it was quite a distance from where they lived, was old and run down and failed to capitalize on what we thought were some glaring opportunities. Right there and then Erik and Peri Ginsberg knew what they should do! Then immediately put a plan in action and learned everything they could about how to build and successfully operate a high-end children’s hair salon. Construction began in July 2007 and Cow Licks Kids Salon opened their doors in November 2007. The rest is history; their claim to fame is EXCEPTIONAL stylists and fanatical customer service. Being a mother of 2, she knows how she wants to be treated, and more importantly, how she wants her children to be treated.
Everything done in this salon focuses on how to deliver the best experience possible. From greeting customers at the door by name, by allowing the children to pick where they want to sit and what movie they’d like to watch, to ensuring complete comfort with the stylist and their surroundings. All of her staff is always smiling and truly enjoys their interactions with the kids. This makes all of the difference. The combination of great haircuts, incomparable customer service, a beautiful and modern setting designed just for children, a wide arrange of retail products to tempt anyone’s fancy, and convenient hours (7 days a week) has been the key to success!
