Sculptra is a form of poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic material that is used as a cosmetic filler. It works by stimulating the body's natural production of collagen after it is injected. It is used to remove the appearance of wrinkles, crow's feet, frown lines, laugh lines, and fine lines on the forehead. The chemical has been used for years by surgeons as dissolvable stitches, and has been used for cosmetic purposes since 1999. It is used to replace the fat that naturally leaves the face as people age, restoring facial thickness. Results are noticed a few days after the product are injected, along with temporary swelling and redness near the injection site, and its affects can last up to two years.
