Every five minutes, a child in Florida suffers abuse or neglect. In 2007, 163 of these children died directly from abuse or neglect. .
In an effort to lower these staggering statistics, a “Stop Child Abuse” specialty license plate was established for motor vehicles in Florida. All funds raised through the sale of these plates benefit children and families through child abuse prevention programs that work to end the cycle of abuse for Florida’s children. Though this plate helps generate life-saving financial resources to help children, it ranks just 51 in sales and renewals of the state’s specialty license plate sales..
The “Stop Child Abuse” plate raises awareness and resources to save innocent children from enduring the horrors of abuse and neglect. It’s crucial to get more of these plates on the road to protect Florida’s children.
“In the time it takes to get in your car, fasten your seatbelt and pull out of your driveway, the state child abuse hotline receives another call,” says David Bundy, President and CEO of Children’s Home Society of Florida (CHS). “Purchases of this plate will help end the nightmares of many children by contributing funds toward abuse prevention. Surely we can protect our endangered children as well as we protect our endangered wildlife.”.
Monies raised through the sale of the “Stop Child Abuse” license plates benefit prevention programs delivered by two statewide organizations, CHS and The Florida Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers. CHS is a multi-service not-for-profit organization committed to strengthening families at risk for abuse and neglect while promoting safe, loving and stable homes for children. The Florida Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers promotes the improvement of Florida’s response to child abuse while minimizing trauma to the children and their non-offending family members.
