DON E. BEATTIE MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

DON E. BEATTIE MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
RAISES $210,000 FOR COLLEGE TRUST FUND

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Members of Mirasol County Club in Palm Beach Gardens performed an emotional act of kindness in early December, raising funds earmarked to help the children of the late Don E. Beattie, Mirasol’s beloved director of golf.

Droves of members rose to the occasion by participating in the Don E. Beattie Memorial Golf Tournament, and the net proceeds were added to contributions already made by Beattie’s friends.

According to Craig A. Perna, president of Kolter’s East Coast Master-Planned Communities and the former president of the Southeast Division of Taylor Woodrow, including The Country Club at Mirasol, Mirasol’s support brought the total contributions for the Don E. Beattie, Jr. Educational Trust Fund to around $210,000. “When invested and compounded over time, the money will pay for college educations for each of the Beattie family’s children – Emily, Felipe and Stefanie – who are now 9, 12 and 3. Mirasol members truly had the children’s interest at heart. And so did Mirasol’s management, who freed up two course and facilities for the cocktail party, auction, tournament and awards party that took place over two consecutive days.

Additionally, many individuals and companies stepped up to the plate by donating auction items, sponsoring tee signs and in other capacities. These included Braman Motors, CBI, Taylor Woodrow, and The Country Club at Mirasol, to name a few.

Perna knew Beattie for two decades. “He was my director of golf at various clubs in South Florida and, more important, he was my dear friend. He was a committed and passionate man and friend, and we were blessed to have had him in our lives. When I thought back on all of my years with Don, I wondered how I could ever repay all that he was to me and to so many of us. This was certainly a good start.”

Beattie passed away in June at the age of 51. He left behind his wife Cintia and their three children.
